Post subject: How to prevent other users from horking my terminal session?

My client had a Windows 2000 terminal server that was getting a little slow with the addition of some users so we set up a new Windows 2003 terminal server to ease the load.

They have several remote sites, each with three generic logins available to each site. On the old 2000 server if another user was already logged in with "NewYork1" new users would not be able to use that login and would just pick the next username such as "NewYork2", or "NewYork3", but our new 2003 server doesn't work that way - This server allows the second user kick the first one right out of the session (only one login per username is allowed).

I think this should be able to be controlled through GP, but I can't find the setting. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks!

This is by design. This feature enables users to connect to their own existing session from any client. There's no native method to change this behaviour, AFAIK.

The problem you describe is yet another argument against using generic accounts. I'd strongly recommend to get away from generic accounts, they are a pain.

Download and install 'SecureRDP' from www.2x.com. Check the box to 'Reset disconnected user sessions..' in the 'Session Restrictions' area. Open 'Terminal Services Configuration' and look under 'Server Settings' change 'Restrict each user to one session' to 'No'

That should do it.
