Anyone like to weigh in on this??
We have 340 kids grades K-12 and 30 teachers. We have a Citrix server.
We are all on one campus with 4 buildings.
To get to the point….here is what I would like to do.
1. Buy all of my teachers laptops (these will be stand alone machines,
not thin clients)
2. Move the present desktops the teachers have to our computer labs as
thin clients.
3. Buy a couple of rolling carts with laptops (we presently have two
carts with about
20 computers each)
4. Update our Citrix server
5. In three years move our entire teacher machines “down” to a
student used wireless
cart. (thin clients) - Then buy teachers new machines.
That would be our rotation of machines.
Other info
We have a one day a week Tech guy (not a full time person)….but we do
have full time virtual assistance.
We are due for an update of the server. We would do the Citrix update
with this concept in mind.
Programs we would need to run off of Citrix.
Dreamweaver
Premier (maybe)
Microsoft office
AutoCad
Our school day is divided up in 50 minute class periods. Some hours we
may have 30 kids working on the server. At other times we may only
have 5. Eventually, I would like to give our kids off campus access so
they can use the programs when they are at home They would be able to
check out machines to take home if they do not have one available. We
would work on alternative methods to gain them access to the internet.
(this is a consideration for down the road…not super important at this
time).
I am seeing Citrix as the “answer” but I want to move forward
carefully.
Thanks,
K
