Post subject: Remote Desktop Disconnection

Site and Site B are VPN tunnelled. SITE A has three computers loaded with windows XP O/S and some users from Site B access these computers for their analysis work. They are currently using Windows Remote Desktop Connections to access these computers. But during session of 3 to 4 minutes, users get disconnected from these desktops. Site A has Sonicwall and Site B has ISA 2004 EE. Bot are VPN Tunnelled and are in the same domain. These three computers are having some applications deployed on Windows XP operating System. Users are complaining about disconnected user sessions. Please help me to find a permanent solution for this.

Thanks in Advance.

Regards
Sanjay

Is it only the rdp session which disconnects, or does the whole VPN connection goes down?

Do they get disconnected while they are actively working (using the keyboard or the mouse) or only after 3-4 minutes of idle time?

If it only happens after some minutes of idle time, it's probably caused by a router which sees no traffic and throws the session out.

Check if it helps to enable KeepAlives on the connection. That's done with a Group Policy:

Computer Configuration - Administrative templates - Windows Components - Terminal Services
"Keep-Alive connections"

Had the same issue with Cisco GRE/IPSEC VPN and need to set the IP MTU
max transmissin unit to 1300 to keep them connected.

Hope this helps
