Just got a notice from Citrix that XenApp (formerly Presentation Server)
version 5 is coming out in the next couple of weeks.

Anyone ave any insight as to what is like? I'm faced with the need to
build a new farm to replace the one I currently have (new hardware) and
I'm interested, but very leery of "Version 1.0" of anything.....

As I understand it, this new release is largely a rebranding of
Presentation Server under the new name XenApp, as part of a wider-scale
rebranding currently underway of a number of Citrix products. It will
have new functionality, but this should be the equivalent of a new "dot
release" rather than a "Version 1.0" release. Recently I have been
using the XenApp beta, and from a user POV it operates similarly to the
previous version. Not having worked with Presentation Server except as
a user, however, I don't know what the issues are with installing it or
managing it in the server room or how those would be impacted by the new
release.

By the way, I should introduce myself. I am a Citrix employee, but in
an entirely different part of the company -- I'm a technical writer who
focuses on the Application Firewall part of the Citrix NetScaler line.
My participation here is entirely on my own time and initiative; I don't
speak for Citrix. If any of you need help to find information or
services, though, I'll be happy to try to help. Smile

I wouldn't do it, Hank, I'd stick to the present version, and buy a
one-year software assurance. Then you can upgrade to version 5 after
a year or so, when all the early-adopters have detected the bugs Smile

That's pretty much what I decided. We already have SA and will use it to
upgrade to 4.5 (our current farm is running 4.0)... Thanks for the
confirmation...
