Post subject: TS on Windows 2003, Recommended Hardware Requirements

I am considering an off site colo terminal server to be included in a project proposal to a client this Saturday. They would have 10-15 users on the machine at the same time and it would need to run a 3rd party database/frontend for their needs. The 3rd party software and databases take up about 200mb of ram on their current Windows Server 2003 computer.

The terminal server would need
Antivirus
Office
3rd party program mentioned above

With that in mind what kind of hardware would you think I would need in order to run everything on?

HP DL360 or Dell Poweredge 1950 w/ RAID1, RAID10, or RAID 0+1, 4GB RAM, Windows 2003 Standard, Any CPUs available for these servers should be sufficient, but most people choose to installl 2 x Dual Core Xeons or 2 x Quad Core Xeon CPUs. I usually purchase the third fastest speed available for a given CPU architecture, to avoid paying a premium for the newest model.

I think 2GB of RAM would be sufficient in your case Razz

In the original post it states 10-15 concurrent users of an application using 200MB of RAM, so that alone could use 3GB of RAM, not counting other applications.

RAM is cheap, where the different between a server with 2 & 4GB RAM is a couple of hundred $$$, so there's no reason to only add 2GB RAM, when you may need more.
