Post subject: No Sound in TS Client on WM5 Device

Hello,

A Windows Mobile 5.0 device needs to access a critical app on a remote xp pro sp2 PC. TS Client works fine except for sound isn’t redirected to the mobile device. When I try to remotely access RDP sound device settings in the Control panel on the server, I keep getting a DirectSound error. However, sound is steaming OK when the app is accessed from a laptop running XP, so that doesn’t look like a problem with the TS or the app.

Yes, I know Windows Mobile is no longer supporting DirectSound, but isn’t there a workaround to get sound going in a TS session on WM5?

Tried searching the web but seem to have failed to find anything relevant to the problem. I also tried contacting both my local MS and HPC’s support but with no luck either.

Could it be that I’m just missing something trivial like upgrading TS RDP libraries?

I’m at a loss. Any help would be highly appreciated

Well, seem to have found a solution (though not tested it yet)
On Windows Mobile 5.0 devices, sound streams should be available under
micro-VNC for WM5(SSH1) 2.14 Enhanced VNC client for WM5.

http://www.mobiletopsoft.com/pocket-pc/download-micro-vnc-for-wm5ssh1-2-14.html

Sound stream is delivered by a third-party server (Hitachi) named EsdMonSrv separated from VNC server

Manual:
http://mobile.hitachi-system.co.jp/download/mVNC-Palm/manual/index_e.html#ESD
Download:
http://mobile.hitachi-system.co.jp/download/ESDMonSrv/ESDMonSrv.zip

Sound protocol is Enlightened Sound Daemon (ESD, Hitachi) with Vorbis sound compression extension.
To get EsdMonSrv to work you will need to download Ogg Vorbis DLL from

http://www.rarewares.org/files/ogg/oggvorbis-dlls1.1.2.zip
http://www.rarewares.org/ogg.html

and extract it into EsdMonSrv directory.

P.S. Still, I DO wonder if there are less tricky ways to stream sound under TS Client on Windows Mobile 5 devices. Any ideas except for turning end users into developers to get them to implement virtual channels? Thanks.

This version of Remote Desktop Connection (Terminal Services Client 6.0) can be installed on client computers running Windows XP Service Pack 2.
