Post subject: Roaming Profiles / TS

Hiya Guys,

Started to divluge into the world of Terminal Services and need a bit of help if possible.
We have an SBS 2003 server, 20 users with Roaming profiles stored on that server. When some of the TS users RDP into the server, a local copy of their profile is stored to the server, using up valuable space on the C: Drive. Is there anyway of either:

Deleting this cached copy once they logoff (I can see the Group Policy option but only want it to apply to users remoting into the server, not the domain workstations)

Changing location where locally cached copies are stored.

If anyone has dealt with this before I would appreciate your advice.

Adam

Sure you can use a GPO to delete the locally cached copy of the roaming profile!
Just configure this setting in a GPO which is linked to the OU which contains your Terminal Server. Since it's a Computer Configuration setting, it will only be applied when users log on to the TS, not when they logon to their workstation.

You have defined separate normal and TS specific profiles, I assume? Otherwise you will get profile corruption.

Pardon my ignorance, but when you say "You have defined separate normal and TS specific profiles, I assume? Otherwise you will get profile corruption." I assume you mean define another location within the AD Tab for Terminal services profiles..?
Currently the users have the following profile path - \\server\profiles\username
I have now set the the TS profile path to \\server\TSprofiles\username...
Is that correct? I am also worried that setting that policy to delete locally cached profiles will delete them off the workstations as well, or will it just remove from the TS Server..?

About the profiles: yes, that is exactly what I meant.
And about the GPO setting: as long as the Terminal Server is in a separate OU and the user's workstations are in a different OU, and you link the GPO with the "delete cached profiles" setting to the TS OU, the GPO can only affect user profiles on the TS. That's the beauty of GPOs :-)

The setting *would* affect workstation profiles also if you linked the GPO to the domain, or configured the setting in the Default Domain Policy, so that's *not* how you should do it.
