Post subject: Published app visible from local LAN, not from Internet
Archived from groups: alt>os>citrix (more info?)

Hi all.

I've been troubleshooting this for hours. I'm running PS 4 on Windows 2000.
I've created a published app that works fine from within the LAN /
connecting to the local IP address of the server.

Its public address works fine from the Internet side as far as connecting to
its desktop; but I cannot access my published app this way. I've verified my
firewall is allowing 1494, 2598, 1604 to the Citrix box.

When trying to create the ICA connection for this, I add the public IP for
the server under "Server Location", make sure it's set for TCP/IP, but
always the result is the same: after clicking the drop-down list to see the
Published Application(s), I get a pop-up saying "The ICA browser did not
return any server names. You can enter server addresses..." etc. It's like
my box wasn't available at this address. But again - it works just fine at
this address from outside as far as connecting to the desktop. And the
published app itself works just fine from inside the LAN.

What am I missing?

Help very much appreciated!

Thanks
Scott.

Scott,

I'm assuming you'r accessing your Citrix server dirctly from the
internet, rather than through secure gateway.

When using Published apps, the XML service kicks in, which it doesn't
if you just connect to the server desktop. If the XML port open from
internet side to the server? Also, you have to specify the altaddr on
the server and tell the program neightbour client to request the
altaddr rather than the real address.

Hi Ken.

Yes, I'm trying to use it direct via Internet for this application. I've
already set the altaddr, am using that one from outside of course.

I thought for a moment you might have found my problem - I had the ports
open to this box I listed below, but not TCP 80 which XML uses. Opened it
and... same problem. Sad

I am *really* at a loss here.

Scott.

I've found my problem.

I needed UDP 1604 open, not TCP 1604. All seems to be working now.

Thanks again.

Scott.

Scott,

I wouldn't recommend you use UDP - this is a throwback to earlier
versions of Citrix MetaFrame, which is really obsolete nowadays. I
believe Citrix only left it in for backwards compatibility. Everyone
should really be using XML.

If you're using the full program neighborhood, change the protocol
used from "TCP/IP" to "TCP/IP + HTTP". TCP/IP on it's own will do a
UDP broadcast, while TCP/IP + HTTP will use the XML service. This is a
lot friendlier to a network environment than UDP broadcasts.
