Post subject: Prevent the "Start the following program on Connection "

I have a couple of end users that have decided to try and automate their log on to our Terminal servers. I have locked out the"remember password" button, but I can't find a way to prevent them from starting a program, on connection. The problem is, that quiting this startup program results in the RDP session shutting down with other applications open, and we are getting some data coruption. Does anyone have any information?

Have you tried user education? It's actually in the users own interest to avoid data corruption.

But if that doesn't help, you might want to try a workaround:
you cannot use the GPO setting

Computer Configuration - Administrative templates - Windows Components - Terminal Services
"Start a program on connection"

and configure the setting as Disabled, because that still gives the users the option to configure a starting application in their rdp connection.

BUT: you can Enable the above setting and configure "explorer.exe" as the starting application. That would enforce them to run explorer, which happens to be the desktop :-) Be sure to test this, I haven't tested it for side effects.

Using explorer.exe opens window exploreron logon. I don't particulary want them exploring the files on our Terminal Servers. If I block use of Explorer.exe, it causes an error that stops the logon

Thanks for the idea Vera
