I currently have a PS 4.0 farm running and reporting to a license
server. I want to set up a new PS 4.5 farm on new hardware and have it
report to the same license server.
I did the following:
1) Download the license file from My Citrix
2) Uninstalled the 4.0 License server
3) installed the 4.5 license server
4) installed the license file
I have two problems. I have a single error message on the first server
in the old 4.0 farm that said "The licenses required by this edition of
MetaFrame Presentation Server are not present on the license server
utility01." I believe that this problem is resolved since the console is
correctly reporting the total number of logged on users for both servers.
My second problem is trying to install PS 4.5 on the new hardware. I had
downloaded the PS 4.5 (with FP1) code onto a CD. When I try to install
PS 4.5, I get the message that I don't have the licenses for this level
of code. I thought that PS 4.0 and 4.5 shared the same licenses.
When I looked on My Citrix for updates, I did find a "PS4.5 to PS 4.5
w/FP1" upgrade. Does this mean that I need to upgrade my licenses? If I
upgrade my licenses, will they still work for my 4.0 farm?

I've had similar problems when I installed PS45. A year ago I updated our
farm from 4.0 to 4.5. I downloaded the new license file (important is the
date of subscription advantage), then i was able to install ps45 beside
our ps40 Servers.

Thanks for the reply, Andre, but I'm still not clear on what to do.
Should I upgrade my licenses to "4.5 to 4.5 w/FP1" and will 4.0 servers
still be able to access the same license server as the new 4.5 farm?

Hank,
on the AMC of the new PS 4.5 farm, right click on a specific Citrix
Server, and select All Tasks -> Set Server Edition. confirm that the
correct edition is set, that matches your licenses.
If I remember correctly the FP1 functionality was only available for
Platunum edition, so it may have installed itself as a platinum
edition farm
then again, I might be wrong...

Excellent feedback... I'll check it out when I get to work....
