One of our TS servers is having a slow performance issue.
OS is server 2003 x86 enterprise with SP2
It has 4 core single processor, 16GB of physical RAM installed and /PAE switch added to the boot.ini.
No page file on the system drive, it has a dedicated internal disk for paging which is system managed.
Had about 50 users on this machine, but migrated to another service to isolate the issue, this didn't help.
No problem on the other machine.
Users running everything from IE, Office suite, SAP, MS Dynamics.
All the app is installed on the TS.
Installing SQL native client for MS Dynamics changed the memory usage option from “Programs” to “System Cache”,
so we had changed the setting back to “Programs” in the past.
No idea what is causing the issue, so installed Terminal Services Log (trial) for diagnostic,
and noticed not all installed physical memory is used, maximum of only 5668MB used in last 7days.
That got me thinking, and after some time on the Internet found these articles and now I'm convinced that either the /PAE switch is unnecessary or we have too much memory, or both!

I've taken a counter log against "Memory – Free System Page Table Entries" and it showed well over 15000 right after reboot, and confirmed more than 5000 PTE is available.

I am not at all confident that my theory would work,
, any suggestions are more than welcome!
